Who can vote?

Eligible voters in the ballot will be the non-domestic ratepayer listed on the Council’s database for each business premise situated in the geographical area of the proposed BID. There is no minimum or maximum levy threshold and therefore all businesses within the boundary would be required to pay the compulsory levy.

(Businesses that are outside the BID boundary and who may wish to benefit from some of the services and projects the BID provides, can contribute by way of a voluntary levy but only if the BID is successful at ballot. Voluntary levy payers will play no role in either the ballot or in the governance of the company.)

UK Engage will issue a Notice of Ballot to every eligible voter 2 weeks before the official ballot papers are despatched.  This Notice will give details and a timetable for the voting process.  Voters will need to adhere to those scheduled dates in respect of appointing a proxy (to vote on the eligible voter’s behalf), applying for a replacement ballot paper in the case of lost/spoilt papers and the return date for ballot papers.

Each person entitled to vote in this ballot will have one vote in respect of each business premise occupied or (if unoccupied) owned by them in the geographical area of the proposed BID.
